3 Days in Provence That Changed the Way I See Color

Hi! I'm Naïma a french full time artist living in south west of France.
From the perfume streets of Grasse to the wild cliffs of Gourdon, a journey that inspired my next collection of original oil paintings.
There are places that stay with you long after you've left because they awaken something quietly within you.
Last week, I spent three days exploring the French Riviera and Provence wandering through the sunlit streets of Grasse, following the winding mountain road to the breathtaking village of Gourdon, and spending a peaceful day on the island of Sainte-Marguerite, just off the coast of Cannes.
I came home with a full sketchbook, a heart full of inspiration... and the first visions of a new series of paintings.
Grasse: Where Beauty Lives in Every Little Street

Grasse surprised me. Of course, it is famous as the perfume capital of the world.
But what I loved most wasn't the perfume. It was simply walking.
Every narrow street seemed to reveal another hidden square, another weathered pastel façade covered in flowers, another quiet café where time felt wonderfully slow.
As an artist, I found endless inspiration in the colors. Soft ochres. Terracotta. Olive greens.
The faded blues of old shutters. Even the light itself seemed different.
If you visit Grasse, don't rush. My favorite advice is simply to wander without a destination.

Sometimes the most beautiful discoveries happen when you aren't looking for them.
One place I especially loved which was a surprised discovery for me was the Fragonard Museum, where perfume, history, craftsmanship, art and beauty come together in a way that feels uniquely French.
It reminded me that creating something beautiful is often a slow process, refined over generations.
The Road to Gourdon

The drive to Gourdon may have been my favorite part of the journey. The road climbs through the mountains, revealing very far away views over the Mediterranean. It is truly magical. Along the road you can also see everywhere beautiful Olive trees...
By the time I reached the village, I understood why impressionist artists have been inspired by Provence for centuries.
Gourdon feels suspended between earth and sky.
Stone houses. Flower-filled windows. The scent of wild herbs carried by the wind. I loved so much smelling the scent of the Fig trees which I found really special.
I wandered into a small artist's gallery and my husband and I immediately fell in love with one original painting. We talked for almost an hour with the artist, an old man full of stories to share about his life... I found it so inspiring...

Bringing home one of his artwork really feels meaningful to me.
It reminds me that art carries stories...not only from the artist, but eventually from where it comes from too... We will always remember this place and this painting will remind us of it.
A Quiet Day on Île Sainte-Marguerite
After the villages came the sea.
The peaceful paths beneath pine trees.
The turquoise Mediterranean...

The rhythm of waves against the rocks and the sea birds flying...
It reminded me how deeply water influences my own paintings.

Water softens.
It reflects.
It teaches surrender.

The Beginning of a New Collection
I realized, somewhere between lavender fields, olive trees, mountain roads, and the Mediterranean Sea...
That this journey wasn't simply a holiday.
It was the beginning of a new body of work.
My next collection is already taking shape in my sketchbook.
Paintings where lavender dissolves into the sea.
Where olive trees dance with wildflowers.
Where the light of Provence meets the endless blue of the Mediterranean.
A collection inspired by places that invite us to slow down... to breathe... and to remember the beauty that surrounds us.
