Hi, I'm Naïma, a professional artist from Normandy, living in the beautiful South West of France. Inspired by the Divine Feminine, mythology and the symbolism of nature, I create soulful paintings that invite reflection, connection and remembrance.
I've always been drawn to roses, long before I understood why. They appear in mythology, sacred art, poetry and spiritual traditions across the world.
They have been carried by goddesses, painted by artists, pressed into love letters and offered as symbols of devotion.
The more I explored the symbolism of the Divine Feminine, the more I realized the rose tells the story of womanhood itself...our strength, our softness, our cycles, our resilience and our ability to transform.
In many ways, it reflects the journey of being a woman.
What Does the Rose Symbolize in Spirituality?
In Ancient Greece, the rose was sacred to Aphrodite, the goddess of love, beauty, and desire. According to myth, the first red roses bloomed from the blood of her beloved Adonis, mingled with Aphrodite’s tears, making the flower a symbol of love, beauty, and transformation.
In Ancient Rome, the rose became the flower of Venus, carrying many of the same meanings: love, fertility, sensuality, abundance, and feminine power.
Further east, in Persian poetry and Sufi mysticism, the rose came to represent the soul’s longing for the Divine. It symbolized a love that transcends romance—a love that awakens and transforms the heart.
In Christian mysticism, the rose became associated with the Virgin Mary, often called the Mystical Rose, symbolizing purity, compassion, and divine grace. Even the word rosary comes from the Latin rosarium, meaning “a crown of roses,” with each prayer offered like a flower in devotion.
Across cultures and centuries, the rose has never been just a flower. It has been a symbol of love, beauty, creation, devotion, and the Divine Feminine. Perhaps that’s why I’ve always felt drawn to paint it.
Why Is the Rose Connected to Women Throughout History?
Why the rose feels so deeply connected to women? Perhaps it's because it reflects so many of the contradictions we carry.
It is soft, yet resilient.
Delicate, yet enduring.
Beautiful, yet protected by thorns.
Women have long been expected to embody only one side of themselves...to be endlessly giving, endlessly gentle, endlessly accommodating.
The rose reminds us that true femininity has never been one-dimensional. Its petals invite closeness.
Its thorns teach discernment. Neither exists without the other.
The Divine Feminine is not defined by softness alone. She embodies compassion and courage, tenderness and strength. She opens her heart with love, yet honours her own boundaries, knowing that true femininity never asks her to abandon herself.
The rose holds all of these qualities in perfect balance.

Why Do Roses Appear So Often in My Artwork?
People often ask why roses find their way into so many of my paintings. The truth is, I don't always choose them consciously.
Sometimes it feels as though they choose me. As I've explored the symbolism of the Divine Feminine, I've realized the rose quietly embodies everything I hope my work expresses.
Gentleness without fragility. Strength without hardness.
Beauty that isn't performative. Growth that unfolds naturally.
When I paint a rose, I'm not simply painting a flower...I'm painting resilience...The courage to remain open. The wisdom that comes with time. The quiet unfolding that every woman experiences as she learns to trust herself.
I hope that when someone sees one of my paintings, I hope they recognise something of themselves.
How Is the Rose Connected to Sacred Geometry?
One of the most extraordinary things about the rose is that its beauty isn't random. Beneath its delicate petals lies an intricate mathematical design that has fascinated artists, architects, philosophers and scientists for centuries.
This hidden order is known as sacred geometry—the patterns and proportions that appear throughout the natural world and have long been understood as reflecting the harmony of creation.
Look closely at the centre of a rose, and you'll notice its petals unfurl in a graceful spiral. This spiral often follows the same mathematical principles found in the Fibonacci sequence, where each number is the sum of the two before it (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13...). As the rose grows, its petals arrange themselves in a way that maximises space, light and balance, creating a pattern that feels naturally beautiful to the human eye.
This relationship to the Golden Ratio (approximately 1.618) can also be seen throughout nature...in sunflower heads, pinecones, seashells, hurricanes and even the spiral arms of galaxies. It is one of the reasons we instinctively recognise these forms as harmonious and beautiful.
For thousands of years, sacred geometry has been understood as more than mathematics. Ancient cultures believed these patterns revealed the underlying intelligence woven into the universe...a bridge between the physical and the spiritual.
To me, this makes the rose even more remarkable.
It isn't simply a symbol of beauty; it is beauty expressed through nature's own design.
When I think about the Divine Feminine, I often think about this quiet intelligence. The feminine isn't chaotic or passive. Like the rose, it moves with an innate rhythm, unfolding exactly as it was created to.
The rose doesn't force itself open. It blooms according to an invisible wisdom already written within it.
As women, we can spend so much of our lives believing we need to push, strive and constantly become more. Yet the rose reminds us that growth doesn't always happen through force.
Sometimes it happens by trusting the natural rhythm of our own unfolding.
Maybe that's why the rose has remained one of the most enduring symbols of the Divine Feminine.
Not only because it is beautiful, but because every petal reflects the same sacred order that exists throughout creation.
My art is deeply inspired by the Sacred Feminine, mythology, nature and the timeless symbols that have connected women across cultures for centuries. Every painting begins with a feeling, a story or a symbol that speaks to the soul before it speaks to the mind.
My hope is that when someone brings one of my paintings into their home, they feel more than admiration for the artwork.
I hope they feel a sense of peace, connection and remembrance...a gentle invitation to reconnect with the wild, wise and authentic woman within.
Because sometimes, a single symbol can remind us of who we've been all along.
