Moon Child | Oil Painting | Wild Woman Art
Moon Child
This oil painting depicts a woman emerging in water, held by the vastness of the ocean and the presence of the crescent moon above her.
At her side stands a howling wolf... as a guide, a guardian, a reminder of instinct and truth.
The landscape is built from deep blues, softened greens, and shifting tones of light.
It carries the memory of the kelp forests I encountered on Vancouver Island, a magical world beneath the surface.
The wolf is inspired by the wild, elusive coastal wolves of British Columbia, beings that live between forest and shore...mystical and beautiful.
I created this piece while thinking of my journey there in 2019, where I hoped to see wolves in their natural world. What I experienced instead was something even deeper... a feeling of vastness, of belonging to something untouched.
Bathing in the Pacific Ocean, watching moonrise over the water, standing in front of endless sunsets… I felt free.
I have always felt like a wild child at heart...
drawn to movement, to water, to the rhythm of nature itself.
There is a wholeness that returns when we stop resisting what we truly are.
The wolf becomes the part of us that remembers.
The ocean becomes the space that holds us.
The moon becomes the light above it all.
Moon Child is a reminder to trust the unknown.
To listen to instinct.
To follow the quiet call of the wild within.
To remember that we are not separate from nature, but we are part of its rhythm, its intelligence, its beauty.
A painting of:
- inner wildness
- emotional freedom
- connection to nature
- intuition and instinct
- feminine strength in surrender
