The Story Behind the Artwork
This painting came to me like a true love letter to the self. It is the vibrant expression of the wild self—free, untamed, and bold.
Through this canvas, I wanted to create a powerful visual reminder to always be proud of who you are, to embrace your own complexity, and to celebrate your freedom.
At the heart of this composition blooms a majestic peony—an ancestral symbol of inner strength, healing, and feminine resilience.
It is surrounded by a symphony of wild flowers and the delicate silhouette of a bird from the French countryside, taking flight like an invitation to create a joyful life and to simply be love.
Poetic Inspiration & Collage
The text fragments collaged into the texture are a tribute to Arthur Rimbaud, the very first poet who truly touched my heart as a young woman when I was in school, discovering his prose.
Through his poems, Rimbaud pushes us to wake things up, to awaken the animal, plant, and human worlds.
He invites us to explore all of our senses and to feel everything deeply. He awakened my wild spirit and inspired me to invent a life without boundaries, to see beyond my eyes, and to dare to be an artist. This painting is the continuation of that awakening.
Artist Notes & Technical Insight
- A Dialogue Between Past and Modernity: Revisiting the spirit of the Dutch Golden Age still life masters, I chose to replace the traditional dark backdrops with a luminous, hazy, and textured atmosphere.
- The Movement of Life: The bouquet bursts in an organic, free-flowing way—a beautiful mess—while a single rose, delicately resting to the side, creates a poetic asymmetry. It symbolizes a beauty that breaks free from rules to find its own unique balance.
